I’m reaching out because I’m struggling with the timing of my online classes and exams. I work odd hours, and some of my exams are scheduled when I’m either at work or completely drained. I’ve heard people mention online academic help or even asking someone to take my online exam on their behalf. Has anyone ever tried anything like that? Are there trusted ways to get help without violating school policies? The amount of time required to prepare for the Goethe A1 exam can vary depending on the learner’s background, native language, and prior exposure to German. However, in most cases, learners can expect to spend between 80 to 120 hours of structured study to reach the A1 level — the very first step on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The Goethe A1 exam tests basic German skills such as introducing yourself, describing simple situations, asking questions, and understanding short written or spoken messages. This includes learning basic grammar such as present tense verbs, question forms, personal pronouns, and simple sentence structures. You’ll also need to build a core vocabulary of about 500–800 common German words.
The best way to prepare is through a combination of classroom instruction (either in-person or online), self-study using A1-level textbooks like Menschen A1 or Studio d A1, and lots of listening practice using beginner-friendly materials like Deutsche Welle’s “Nico’s Weg.” Practice speaking with a partner or tutor as early as possible, even with basic phrases.
Ultimately, consistency is key. If you study German for an hour every day, you may be ready for the Goethe exam in about 3–4 months. Those with previous language learning experience may progress faster, while others might benefit from a longer learning period with more repetition and review.
